This Course Junkie is Tired

When my business coach told me to be wary of being over-coached during one of our last conversations before I lost Voxer access, I’ll admit I was confused. Here was a woman in which I have invested thousands of dollars for her coaching, telling me not to be over-coached. It took me a few days to realize what she meant.

I have spent all of 2020 learning how to be, do, and have, and very little of it actually being, doing, and having. So far this year, I took a course to learn how to be a life coach, joined a mastermind with my business and mindset coaches, worked a little with an intuitive eating coach, took two courses on witchcraft (and was coached in a group setting by the creator of the witch courses), took multiple business courses, signed up for a year-long tarot course, and won a course on Ayurveda. I think it’s fair to say that I have information overload.

When I decided I wanted to become an online entrepreneur over a year ago, I wasn’t sure what exactly I wanted to do. I took a course on how to be a virtual assistant and considered becoming a social media manager. Like my business coach, a good friend of mine who is a social media manager warned me not to “over-invest” in courses. I won’t say that I regret any of the courses or coaches I’ve invested in, but part of me wishes I had heeded my friend’s warning.

The online entrepreneur space can be extremely seductive. The spiritual entrepreneur space even more so. New Age spirituality is trendy, and everyone seems to be an expert on the Law of Attraction, manifesting, meditation, and becoming your higher self. There are courses that teach all of the above, as well as courses on how to teach all of the above.

I tend to take things with a grain of salt ever since I left the Christian faith last year, anyway, so I’m pretty adept at researching. I’ve been lucky that all of the coaches I’ve worked with have had great character and integrity. I’ve never felt like a coach or a course was not worth what I paid for it. I have, however, taken too many courses back to back without taking any time in between to implement what I was learning.

When you’re new to the online entrepreneur space, it’s easy to become a course junkie, which is exactly what I’ve done. Yet, you need to figure out how to take action on all of the information that you’re constantly taking in if you want to succeed in your new business. Don’t do what I’ve been doing this year. At least take a breather in between courses to integrate what you’ve been learning.

I have two group programs that are still going for a few more weeks. That’s quiet for me. There were times earlier this year when I was in a mastermind, taking two to three courses/group programs at a time, and trying to work out what my business will become — all while working a full-time job Monday through Friday and occasionally delivering food for a food delivery app on weekends. Plus, I’m a single homeschooling mother of a 16-year-old son and I have five small pets. (insert wide-eyed emoji here)

As I said, I don’t regret any of the courses or coaches I’ve invested in. I learned a lot, and it kept me distracted from a very hectic 2020 news year. However, I think I’ll take a break from purchasing courses over the next three months. It’s time to integrate all of the amazing information my coaches and teachers have imparted on me. And what better time than Fall to take a break from learning and just enjoy the season?

If you need me, I’ll be binge-watching Netflix, making content for my podcast, Intuition Vortex (on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts), posting in my Facebook group of the same name, posting on Instagram, and creating amazing spiritual courses and workshops. Oh, and still working full time at my 9–5. Gotta feed my giant teenager and tiny hungry animals.
